IRONMAN 70.3 Shanghai 2018

Back in May, at the time we were excited and celebrating the strong finish of tough IRONMAN 703 Vietnam, the announcement of 70.3 SHANGHAI just happened at the right time while we were looking at every single toys and addicted into the game! Why? We seldom have a chance to race in the cool weather environment in Asia, and it’s a flat course. It’s definitely a race to make record!

We quickly line up and put this as our 2nd target race for the 2nd half of 2018 within Team Sonic. It’s the important common goal we set and put that into our training objective.

We had enjoy a mid-season break in June so our training was a bit relax and more technique focus, then we re-grouped in July and started the 4 months training cycle.

It was very hot to train in July and August, rain and shine we strict to the plan. Liters and liters of sweating in every sessions, at some point we were frustrated by not progressing and having hard time dealing with the heat and the rain, until we gone though 1 or 2 race simulations, and by the time the weather turning little cooler, we started seeing gain, we got dividend! Our confidence built up when structural training, knowledge, experience and great mindset coming together. We put on our race suit, stepped on the starting pontoon with confidence, we showed up ready, prepared, no fear, and we made new record!

Alex Chung is the legendary distance swimmer in Hong Kong, he was first representing Team Sonic in Triathlon relay back in year 2006. He contacted me in 2017 for racing his first Triathlon then he was hooked. He is the one with the champion mindset deeply embedded as the former world class athlete. He is the one throwing himself in the middle of nowhere and asking for a program where he could train 2-3 sessions a day like a professional triathlete. He is the one respect the training program and made it 120% completed. His first 70.3 Qujing was a big lesson learnt, this time he picked up the right mindset to deal with the length of the race and showed what he made of. It’s my pleasure to continue working with him and raise the bar!

In many aspect of life, Gigi is the source of my inspiration. In sports, she is the role model and the one who demonstrate champion mindset when she got turned on. She done this race without much preparation and under the irritating allergies just because she wanted to share the post race happiness with the team!
